At GFL, we are continually striving to realise the fully educational potential of school grounds and have managed number of curriculum focused programmes including Learning Outside Inside, a Scottish Natural Heritage funded action research project looking at ways in which the curriculum can be delivered more effectively using school grounds.

Through this programme, we have been working with ten partner schools across Scotland. Each school has chosen a particular area of schoolwork, for example maths, where the teachers would like to make progress in using their school grounds to deliver the subject more effectively.

A series of Curriculum / School Grounds Topic Sheets are being devised featuring lesson plans and practical ideas on taking the curriculum outdoors. Based on tried and tested examples of work in Scottish schools, these will be added to over an extended period to form a comprehensive School Grounds and the Curriculum resource file.
