13 Jan 2010 All primary schools in Clackmannanshire develop their grounds
Following the recent audit of schools grounds across Clackmannanshire, Grounds for Learning has established a four year service level agreement with Clackmannanshire Council. This will help support all the primary schools within the authority to develop and implement a four year improvement plan for their grounds - so that they offer improved opportunities for learning across the curriculum, physical activity, play, socialising and experiencing wildlife. Each academic year will see the involvement of four or five schools that have applied to be part of the programme.
The school grounds support programme comprises three days of support from a GfL advisor to consult with and support the entire school community plus £3,000 worth of funding to help begin the implementation of the plan. In the following three years the schools benefit from another day per year of GfL staff time and £1,000 per year to help with costs.
A working group comprising key members of staff from the authority (e.g. property services, grounds maintenance, biodiversity and education representatives) has been established to oversee the plans and provide advice and support where necessary. Each year the outcomes of the project schools will be shared with the next set of schools beginning their improvement plans and the learning will be shared through the authority intranet and GLOW.
